How long does my passport need to be valid?
Simple answer
There is no universal “passport must have six months left” rule for every country and every visa. Each destination (and sometimes each airline) sets its own validity expectations.
What it means
People often hear “six months” because many places and carriers use that as a practical rule. Others ask for validity covering your stay, three months after exit, or another published standard. Assuming six months everywhere can be wrong in either direction.
What you may need to do
Check the destination immigration authority’s entry and visa pages for your nationality, and check carrier rules before you book. If your passport is close to expiry, plan renewal early.
Country / visa warning
Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Cambodia do not all publish identical passport-validity wording for every product. Always read the rule for your specific route.
